2027 Presidential Election: Raphaël Glucksmann affirms that he "will not participate" in a left-wing primary

2027 Presidential Election: Raphaël Glucksmann affirms that he "will not participate" in a left-wing primary
The leader of Place publique refuses to "participate in a party trick that produces a weak synthesis," rejecting calls from François Ruffin and Marine Tondelier for a major primary that would include La France Insoumise.

Social Democrat Raphaël Glucksmann , leader of the Place publique party, stated in an interview with Le Monde on Friday that he "will not participate in a primary" which many on the left want, but which he considers "deadly".

It's clear, it's a no: "I will not participate in a machine trick that produces a weak synthesis, because it won't work," explains Raphaël Glucksmann, who therefore rejects the calls from François Ruffin and Marine Tondelier for a broad primary including La France Insoumise.

However, the social democrat warns that "there will be no joint candidacy with Jean-Luc Mélenchon," with whom he acknowledges his "frontal contradiction" on issues such as Europe, defense, and nuclear power.

"It's not about ego, it's about ideas," he adds, "and putting your principles in your pocket is a sure sign of moral bankruptcy and political defeat."

This is also why he will not respond to Lucie Castets' invitation, which is calling all left-wing parties to a meeting on July 2, including LFI. "Pretending to be able to go to the presidential election together casts a shadow of insincerity over our political space. It's deadly," he dismisses.

The co-president of Place publique intends, on the contrary, "to first discuss with the Socialist Party a joint offer, in the movement of the European elections" of 2024 where their joint list, which he led, finished in third place with nearly 14% of the vote, close behind the presidential camp.

According to Raphaël Glucksmann, it is this strategy "which will enable a dynamic" that he then wishes to extend "to other political and social forces whose visions are compatible."

Determined to "do everything so that (the) democratic, social and ecological pole is able to win in 2027" and not just "to be first on the left", he did not comment on his own candidacy but stressed that "we will soon see who is best placed to do so".
